focus.

  • Logo Redesign

  • Branding (Colors, Graphic Elements, Typeface)

  • Pitch Deck Presentation Template

  • Packaging Design

  • Website Landing Page Redesign

research.

To better understand the client’s brand and design needs, key insights were gathered through a series of questions:

  • Product Functionality: An alcohol-sensing patch that detects BAC through sweat.

  • Mission & Values: Focuses on creating a safer, healthier drinking culture with values of responsibility, transparency, and confidence.

  • Target Audience: Primarily college students, with customers including universities, organizations, and clubs. Initially focused on locations like SLO and Cal Poly.

  • Desired Brand Communication: Communicates confidence, health, safety, innovation, and community, aiming to establish trust and inspire support for their mission.

  • Design Preferences: Professional yet personable branding, evoking conviction and emotional connection.

  • Adjectives for the Brand: Memorable, professional, personable, and conviction-driven.

  • Admired Brands: Nike (clear messaging), Patagonia (creative logo), Quickie (fun, vibrant), and Castle Innovations (clean messaging, compelling vision).

  • Redesign Goals: Tell their story effectively, connect emotionally, and ensure memorability with a professional yet personality-filled brand.

logo design.

The existing logo, deemed unsuitable for the target audience, served as a starting point.

  • A mood board of appealing logo designs was created, incorporating visuals related to cups and alcohol.

  • Ideated keywords captured essential aspects of the business and brand.

branding.

A mood board explored visual elements, styles, and colors:

  • Color: Green and blue, with an accent color, reflecting the client's preferences.

  • Typography: Legible typefaces for clear communication.

  • Graphics: A droplet icon symbolizing sweat as a BAC detection method.

design process.

In Phase One, we ideated icon designs for DrinkWise, focusing on smart drinking habits and the health aspects of the product. We explored symbols like water and heart rate to create a simple, effective icon.

We also researched typography styles to maintain professionalism while standing out. The client selected their top three, and we began incorporating color.

The client chose dark blues and lighter greens for trust, with coral as an accent for visual appeal. We also tested color contrast for accessibility.

final branding.

Final branding design with logo, typography, and color styles!

landing page.

During our low-fidelity phase in creating our landing page, our designers began to experiment with different layouts and how to implement the information in a way that would engage viewers into purchasing the product.

Moving into the mid-fidelity stage, our client picked out their favorite layouts from our low-fidelity samples. From there, we began to experiment with color and typography. We began to create different components that would further our design system.

Here are the final iterations of the landing page. The last image is the final prototype of our landing page, which includes a simple and helpful animation of how DrinkWise’s patch works! The landing page provides all the necessary information that proves DrinkWise is a company that has a safe, effective, and reliable product! The final prototype of our team page is also displayed, letting their consumers see the minds behind such an amazing product and company!

packaging.

Our mood board guided the packaging design, favoring a simple, minimalist approach with vibrant colors—drawing inspiration from pimple patch packaging. The final mockup reflects our branding guidelines while aligning with the client’s vision for a modern, clean, and straightforward design.

reflection.

Client Work: Our team learned to think outside of the box and outside of our perspectives and collaborate with our client on decisions that our design team and their business team would be satisfied with and still have the brand communicate everything from an artistic and business point of view.

Figma and Webflow: As we moved into our later stages of design, we tried to work with WebFlow by utilizing their Figma plug-in tool. This was one of our greatest challenges, as the plugin could not read our prototype properly. Moving forward, DrinkWise will be adding a developer to their team to efficiently implement our prototype.

challenges.

Ample’s complete case study was conducted over a span of two academic quarters and we realized really quickly how hard it was to design and prototype this app from scratch.

The scope of this project was very ambitious — we learned we had to scale back our project to focus mainly on the consumer-facing mobile screens over the vendor product.
